What is the traditional Tiramisu?

The traditional tiramisu is an authentic no-bake espresso dessert. It’s made with coffee dipped ladyfingers called Savoiardi in sweet mascarpone cheese and cocoa powder! They’re rich, airy, light and creamy dessert which anyone can make with only 6 ingredients.

The Italian Tiramisu is a no-bake espresso-flavoured dessert. It’s made of coffee-dipped ladyfingers with sweetened mascarpone cream and dusted with cocoa before serving.

How to make the traditional Tiramisu?

Assemble the dessert. Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee syrup and place in the pan in a single layer. Add half of the mascarpone cream and smooth the top. Repeat with the same for the second layer. In the end, sieve the cocoa powder.

Ingredients

Coffee Syrup:

  • 1/2 cup strong brewed espresso made with 2 tablespoons of sugar and coffee each

Filling:

  • 3 cold egg yolks
  • 1 cup unpacked powdered/ icing sugar, sifted
  • 2 tbsp. dark cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup or 190 grams ml heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups or 340 g mascarpone cheese, at room temperature
  • 20-24 pieces of ladyfingers or Savoiardi biscuits

STEP 1: In a large bowl beat the egg yolks and sugar with an electric beater on medium temperature until it’s fluffy and creamy.

STEP 2: Fold the mascarpone and mix on medium speed just until smooth and creamy.

STEP 3: In a separate bowl, beat the whipped cream on high speed until soft peaks are formed.

STEP 4:  Add the mascarpone cheese mixture to the heavy cream and mix it with the spatula well.

STEP 5: For the ladyfinger biscuits, dip them in the brewed coffee for about a second and place them in a transparent casserole tray.

STEP 6: Fill the entire dish with savoiardi. Cover the savoiardi with a layer of the filling. Repeat as many times as you want, preferably two or maximum three.

Wrap the casserole and let it rest in the fridge for about 8 hours before serving.

Before serving, sprinkle the cocoa powder on top!

TIP: If you want you can also make them in separate bowls or glasses for everyone!
